Weddings at FCC

A Time of Love and Commitment

You’re engaged! Congratulations and thank you for your interest in wedding ceremonies at First Congregational Church of Traverse City.

Marriage is a God-given gift in which a man and woman learn to love and serve one another as Jesus Christ loves and serves them, unconditionally and forever.

A wedding is a worship celebration of that love. We pray that your wedding and your marriage will be a blessing for you and those who love you. We want to help your marriage be successful. A couple sharing common faith convictions is often a key component in a loving marriage, together participating in the worship life and activities of the congregation and “talking through” the strengths and weaknesses of their dating relationship.

To be married at FCC you’ll need to fulfill the following:

Meet with our staff to review the plans for your ceremony, confirm the associated wedding fees and church policies, and secure calendar space for your date. We have many options to fit whatever size and type of wedding you are planning to have.

Meet with a pastor, preferably he/she who is officiating, to begin preparing for marriage. FCC recognizes that each pastor has a preference for preparing a couple for marriage, and each couple has specific circumstances. FCC respects the chosen path of preparation. It is our desire that prior to the wedding the couple has experienced a meaningful relationship with a pastor. Weddings requesting an outside pastor, must still have an FCC pastor to co-officiate.

Scheduling

Weddings are usually scheduled months in advance. All dates and times are scheduled by our staff. A non-refundable deposit is due to secure the date. If the deposit has not been received within two weeks, it will be assumed the couple no longer wishes to secure the date. Once your date is secured on the calendar, the deposit will later be applied toward payment of the wedding fees. Once the date is on the church calendar, the next step is to select a pastor. Our facilitator will guide you through confirming an FCC pastor or obtaining approval for your outside pastor. We do have many items available including an organist for our beautiful pipe organ, affordable professional video taping services, pew candles, and more. Our staff would be happy to discuss these items with you.
